I inevitably lose something when I travel. As
such, I arrived home two days ago after an exciting and fun trip to Chicago for
Wizard World, seeing people I never dreamed I'd see, up close and personal,
getting posters and other things signed which I will treasure forever. The
XFiles made my career in the 90's as a Computer Scientist so much easier
because of Scully. Men were more respectful of an attractive female
simply because there was a character on television who made it acceptable to be
a female who had a brain in the professional world.
Today
I woke up with the realization that my two very prized treasures from that trip
were not in my possession. I struggled for a couple of hours with where they
might be, how I lost them, and what I could do to retrieve them. Having lost a
128gb SIM card with three days of vacation photos in New York just a few months
ago, I was going through all of those emotions all over again. They are just
possessions in one sense, but in reality they are mementos that I can never
replace. Feeling the sense of loss and kicking myself for being so careless
once again, I called my airline's lost and found department. After much
sympathy and a fruitless search, the agent told me she hoped I found them,
leaving me with several recommendations on other places to check.
As
I hung up, my brain came out of panic mode, and I remembered that I'd shipped
those posters safely home, in a box that will arrive later today. I am in full
rejoice mode and laughing at myself right now. 2 + 2 = stop doubting myself. I
planned well this trip and didn't lose a thing, gaining new friends and
lovely experiences with memories to last me for many years to come. Here's one, will add the other later.
Update June 1, 2017: Oh yeah, it's later. I'll get those photos taken and posted.
